Embassy of Japan Donates 166 Books to COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus

On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus had the distinct honor of hosting a high-level delegation from the Embassy of Japan in Pakistan. The delegation was led by His Excellency Mr. Akamatsu Shuichi, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, accompanied by Mr. Takane Kazumasa (Counsellor), Mr. Shota (First Secretary), Ms. Mamiko Ura (Third Secretary), and other embassy representatives.

The purpose of the visit was to officially present a generous donation of 166 books on Japan, contributed by the Embassy of Japan in collaboration with the Nippon Foundation under its “Read Japan Project.” This initiative aims to enhance global understanding of Japan by equipping international academic institutions with quality literature about the country.

The books—carefully selected and presented in English—cover a broad spectrum of topics, including Japanese politics, economy, security, philosophy, art, and culture. These resources are intended to support research and foster deeper engagement with Japanese studies among students and faculty.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi highlighted the significance of the gesture, stating:

“The gift of books from the Nippon Foundation today are in fact the bridges of knowledge and friendship between Japan and Pakistan.”

Also present on the occasion was Prof. Dr. Shahid Khattak, Director of COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to both the Nippon Foundation and the Embassy of Japan for their valuable contribution. He noted that the availability of such rich resources would allow students to explore Japan’s history, development, and contemporary society—ultimately paving the way for stronger academic and cultural ties between the two nations.

The initiative was originally proposed in 2023 by a distinguished member of MAAP Dr. Amjad HASSAN, who served as the focal person during his tenure at the university. In recognition of his efforts and instrumental role in initiating the project, Dr. Amjad Hussain was specially invited by the Embassy to attend the ceremony.

The successful execution of this visit was made possible with the valuable support of members of the MEXT Alumni Association of Pakistan (MAAP). Special acknowledgment is due to:

  • Prof. Dr. Muhammad Irshad, Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences
  • Prof. Dr. Faridullah, Chairman, Department of Environmental Sciences
