Exploring the Beauty of Japan at PNCA
Islamabad recently witnessed a remarkable cultural event with the opening of “Beautiful Japan – Through the Eyes of an Ambassador,” a captivating photo exhibition at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA). The exhibition offers a unique glimpse into Japan’s rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, vibrant society, and technological advancements—all through the lens of Mr. Farukh Amil, former Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan.
The exhibition, which runs until February 19, 2025, features a curated collection of 40 stunning photographs, each capturing the essence of Japan from an insider’s perspective. These images not only showcase Japan’s timeless beauty but also reflect Mr. Amil’s deep admiration for the country he once called home during his diplomatic service.
A Grand Inauguration and Notable Guests
The exhibition was officially inaugurated on February 14, 2025, by Mr. Hassan Nasir Jamy, Secretary of the National Heritage & Culture Division, and H.E. Mr. Akamatsu Shuichi, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan. Also present at the ceremony were Mr. Ayoub Jamali, Director General of PNCA, along with diplomats, artists, cultural enthusiasts, and members of the MEXT Alumni Association of Pakistan (MAAP) and Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association (PJCA).
The event is a collaborative effort between the Embassy of Japan, PNCA, and MAAP, highlighting the shared commitment to strengthening cultural ties between Pakistan and Japan.
A Celebration of Art, Culture, and Friendship
The exhibition is more than just a display of photographs—it is a cultural bridge between Pakistan and Japan. Mr. Amil’s talent in photography has been widely recognized, even in Japan, where he won the prestigious Grand Prix in the Ambassador’s Photo Exhibition Competition. His work not only portrays Japan’s scenic beauty but also delves into the intricacies of daily life, reflecting the soul of the nation.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Ambassador Akamatsu expressed his admiration for Mr. Amil’s work:
“This exhibition serves as a bridge between our two nations, allowing Pakistanis to experience Japan’s beauty and complexity. It reminds us that despite the physical distance, we share common values—respect for traditions, appreciation for beauty, and a deep connection to human experiences.”
He also extended his gratitude to PNCA and MAAP for their invaluable support in organizing this artistic endeavor.
Gul Najam Jamy, General Secretary MAAP, thanked the Ambassador of Japan for his gracing the inaugural ceremony, and welcomed the participants. The chief guest, Mr. Hassan Nasir Jamy, Secretary, National Heritage & Culture Division, Government of Pakistan, thanked Mr. Farrukh Amil for lending his photographs for display at the PNCA and highlighted the role that cultural and social activities play in building bridges among people from different countries.
